Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awarness Course:

• Recognition of allergy and anaphylaxis – scenario test
• Definitions - What is an allergy and anaphylaxis?
• Causes - What the common causes and triggers are.
• Signs & Symptoms - How to recognise when someone is having an allergic reaction.
• Care & Management - What to do when someone is experiencing and allergy reaction.
• Emergency Treatment - How to administer and EpiPen, the Adrenaline auto-injection.
• Be Prepared - How to avoid the triggers that may cause and allergic reaction.
• Legal Requirements – Risk identification and minimilisation.

Emergency Asthma Management Course:

This accredited course provides knowledge about the underlying causes of asthma, the triggers, recognition and treatment of an asthma attack and how to develop an asthma action plan. The course includes a core module, Asthma Awareness, and is run in conjunction with 4 target modules.

The four target modules are:

1. Asthma in Childcare: Once you have undertaken this course and module you are able to purchase a Bronchodilator Accreditation Number, to purchase and hold blue reliever medication for emergency use in your centre.
2. Asthma in Schools
3. Asthma in Sports
4. Asthma in the Workplace

Allergy-Safe’s training course’s are written and owned by the Asthma Foundation of Victoria.

Training

Allergy & Anaphylaxis Training

• Recognition of allergy and anaphylaxis – scenario test
• Administer and EpiPen – scenario test
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of allergies and anaphylaxis – true/False test
• Complete a risk assessment in the workplace assignment within 6 weeks of participation.

Asthma Training 

• Recognition of asthma  signs & symptoms 
• Identification of equipment used in an asthma attack (spacer & blue reliever medication)
• Demonstration of the 4x4x4 Emergency Asthma First Aid Plan
• Cleaning and storage requirements for an Asthma Emergency Kit

 

Guest Speaking

Information Sessions attended at:

• Childcare Centers
• Pre-Schools/Kindergartens
• Schools
• Year 10, 11 and 12 secondary school students 

Every session is written to provide community specific information.

For instance; childcare centre - the number of children within centre, their specific allergies and how best to manage the risk related to that community; adolescent sessions are geared around safe choices, recognition, ownership and self managment of allergy, peer support and education.
