Allergy-Safe’s training course was written and is owned by the Asthma foundation of Victoria.

The course in Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness:

  • Is an accredited training course,
  • Is valid for 3 years, and
  • The trainer is a licensed trainer.

The course in Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness will cover:

  • Definitions - What is an allergy? What is anaphylaxis?
  • Causes - What are the common causes and triggers of allergies and anaphylaxis?
  • Signs & Symptoms - How to recognize when someone is having an allergic reaction.
  • Care & Management - What to do when someone is experiencing an allergy reaction.
  • Emergency treatment
    – What to do when someone has an anaphylaxis reaction.
    – How to administer an EpiPen, the Adrenaline auto-injection
  • Be prepared -How to avoid the triggers that may cause an allergic reaction
  • Legal requirements – risk identification and minimilisation

To receive a certificate of attainment, on completion of this course, the participant will have to complete and achieve a competency grade for:

  • Outline how to recognise an allergic reaction and what action would be required – scenario  test
  • Demonstrate the use of an EpiPen (Adrenaline auto-injection) –scenario test
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of allergies and anaphylaxis – True/False test
  • Complete an Anaphylaxis Management Plan, including a risk assessment and strategies to avoid allergens, in the workplace, assignment. To be completed within 6 weeks of participation.
